All about Camelfight! Camels are beautiful lumbering creatures. They are are naturally pretty docile creatures. A male can weigh as much as a 1000kg. Camels are used for different purposes. Camelfight, also known as camel wrestling or camel fighting is a sport which originated from turkey where two male Tulu camels are brought together to fight each other. This is done by leading a female camel on heat before them. This practice is common in the Aegean region of Turkey and also practised in other parts of the South Asia and Middle East.

This fight always happen in front of tens of thousands of crowds. Eventhough these creatures are docile, they could be aggressive during mating season which is when the competitions are held.

As tall as they could be, you don’t want to get in their way. They can move surprisingly quickly, especially when two are locking necks, almost like a double helix, as they try to overpower each other.

Their tension would be aroused and they would get angry and be willing to fight.

Female camels aren’t welcome at these type of events. With about 130 male camels — and tens of thousands of drunken spectators — these camels are riled up enough.

The Rules of Camelfight

The rules are simple. There’s no point system. If a camel is forced to his knees, he loses. If a camel runs away – the braver camel wins. Or, if a camel cries out in fright, that also ends the match.

Usually they use these opportunities to throw big party with lots of grilled meat and drinks.

Besides the wrestling and drinking and eating, there’s also a bit of pageantry and music.
